Movie Review: Rakkhosh (2026)

If you're expecting a gripping, modern psychological thriller from Rakkhosh, prepare to be massively disappointed. Despite Siam Ahmed's best efforts, this bloated mess completely drowns in cheesy clichés and agonizingly slow pacing.

⭐ Quick Overview

Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog. Today, we’re keeping it incredibly real about a release that left me feeling thoroughly disappointed: the newly released Bangladeshi action-thriller Rakkhosh (2026). Directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy and starring Siam Ahmed alongside Susmita Chatterjee, this film promises a gritty exploration of a man driven to his absolute limits. While it's garnering some mixed buzz online, I had high hopes that unfortunately crashed and burned. Let’s break down exactly why this one missed the mark.

🧩 Plot Overview (No Major Spoilers)

The story follows a man who gets pushed past the breaking point by a toxic cocktail of love, betrayal, and pure greed. Surrounded by "monsters" in human clothing, he decides to abandon his morals and embrace his inner dark side to exact a brutal brand of vigilante justice and revenge.

On paper, this sounds like an absolute thrill ride. In reality, the execution is where everything falls apart. The pacing feels sluggish and bloated across its hefty 2-hour-and-21-minute runtime. Instead of building tension, the narrative stumbles through highly predictable plot points, and the transition into his "dark side" feels incredibly forced rather than organic or earned.

👩‍🎤 Cast & Performances

Siam Ahmed is an actor I genuinely respect, and you can see him trying his absolute best to inject some intensity and grit into his character. Unfortunately, even his dedication can’t save a poorly written script.

The chemistry between Siam and Susmita Chatterjee feels hollow and fails to make you care about the central love story that is supposed to drive his entire transformation. The supporting cast, featuring Shataf Figar and Ali Raj, falls into over-the-top, stereotypical villain archetypes that belong in a dated era of cinema rather than a modern psychological action-thriller.

🎥 Cinematography & Direction

Director Mehedi Hasan Hridoy attempts to give the film a dark, stylized look to reflect the protagonist's descent into darkness. There are a few decent drone shots and cinematic backdrops—some of which were filmed on location in Sri Lanka—but they feel more like disconnected music video segments than a cohesive movie. The action choreography feels sluggish and heavily reliant on basic camera tricks, lacking the sharp, visceral impact needed to keep an audience engaged.

🎵 Music & Sound Design

The background score and music are handled by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi, and honestly, the soundtrack is one of the few areas that isn't a complete disaster. There are a couple of romantic tracks that sound nice on their own, but they feel completely misplaced when shoved into what is supposed to be a dark revenge thriller. The sound mixing during the heavy action sequences is incredibly loud and jarring, often drowning out the dialogue.

❤️ What I Loved

  • Siam's Effort: Siam Ahmed gives it his all physically, showing flashes of the gritty performer he can be when given the right material.

  • Scenic Locations: The visual backdrops and international shooting locations offer brief moments of nice cinematography.

😅 What Could Have Been Better

  • Bloated Runtime: At nearly two and a half hours, the film drags immensely and feels like it's running in circles.

  • Weak Script & Dialogues: The writing relies heavily on corny clichés and predictable twists that you can see coming a mile away.

  • Forced Tonal Shifts: The movie aggressively tries to juggle generic, sugary romance with ultra-dark violence, resulting in tonal whiplash.

🎯 Final Verdict

Rakkhosh tries to walk the line of a dark, modern psychological thriller but ends up tripping over old-school tropes, weak character writing, and incredibly tedious pacing. If you are a die-hard fan of Siam Ahmed, you might find something to appreciate, but otherwise, it's a frustrating watch that doesn't deliver on its promises.
